Dr. Hondo Anderson is from Steamboat Springs, Colorado and moved to Grand Rapids to join the Onward team. Hondo received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from South College in Knoxville, Tennessee where he graduated summa cum laude. Prior to that, Hondo received his Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Medicine. Hondo worked as a certified personal trainer for four years prior to attending his doctorate program.

Hondo’s practice interests include treating active people and athletes of all ages, improving sports performance with running and Olympic lifting, and treating chronic pain. Hondo has advanced training with dry needling and manipulation, along with other soft tissue techniques. In addition to practicing physical therapy, Hondo is a CrossFit Level-1 trainer at Luminary Fitness.

Outside of work you can find Hondo at a CrossFit class, hiking, camping, biking, or spending time with his wife, Kerry, and their dog, Oakley. His passion for movement and the outdoors is evident in his personality and practice alike.

Dr. Scheppler received her physical therapy doctorate from Grand Valley State University and has worked in the outpatient orthopedic setting since 2021. She is certified in Advanced Dry Needling, various Soft Tissue Mobilization techniques, Clinical Management of the Fitness Athlete, Pelvic Health, and Blood Flow Restriction Training. Prior to her doctorate, she received her kinesiology degree from Michigan State University, where she ran D1 cross country and track. While pursuing her physical therapy doctorate, Sarah also ran track at Grand Valley.

Sarah is interested in treating active individuals of all ages but holds a special interest in treating runners due to her running background. Sarah’s practice interests also include treating pregnant and post-partum moms as well as individuals with pelvic floor dysfunction. Sarah is passionate about assisting all with their fitness journey and overcoming pain in order to live their best life.

Outside of work, you can find Sarah running miles, at the nearest CrossFit gym, camping with her husband, traveling, or tending to her plant babies.

Dr. Hanisko received his doctorate in physical therapy from Grand Valley State University. Joe came to GVSU after completing his bachelor’s degree from Alma College in Integrated Physiology and Health Science. Joe blends a unique treatment approach of manual therapy (dry needling, manipulation, cupping) with high skill movement analysis and strength training.

In addition to being owner of Onward Grand Rapids and clinical physical therapist Joe assumes a role as adjunct faculty for the Clinical Management of Fitness Athletes division under the Instituce of Clinical Excellence (ICE). Over weekend courses he teaches physical therapists around the country on how to improve their skills with treating athletes of all kinds. Joe is an avid CrossFit athlete and olympic weightlifter, but in general lives and breathes fitness and believes all people deserve the right to move PAIN FREE.
